There's more than one way to start a project in VEED, depending on what you're making. You can generate a video with AI from a prompt or a script, open a blank project and build it yourself, or record something new and edit it straight away. This article covers all three, so you can pick whichever suits the video you have in mind.
Create a project with AI
The prompt box on your dashboard home page is the fastest way to get a finished video. Describe what you want, or paste a script you've already written, and VEED generates a talking character video for you.
Before you generate, you can adjust settings including Character, Subtitle style, Background music, Audience, Video type, Tone of voice, Platform, and Aspect ratio.
Start from a prompt
Describe your video
Type your idea into the prompt box on the home page and submit it.
Set a target duration
Choose roughly how long you want the finished video to be. This option is only available when you start from a prompt.
Review your script
AI Studio Lite writes a script first. Edit it, regenerate it, or change your original prompt and try again.
Generate your video
When the script reads the way you want, click Generate Video.
Start from a script
Switch to the Script tab
Select Script above the prompt box.
Paste your script
Your script is used exactly as written, so no new one is generated. Scripts can be up to 5,000 characters.
Adjust your settings and generate
Set your character, subtitles, and the rest, then click Generate Video.
Start from a template
If you'd rather not start from a blank prompt, pick one of the templates below the prompt box. Your settings are pre-filled and you can change any of them before generating. You can also build your own (see how to create and use templates).
Note: generating a video uses credits. Writing a script and setting up a project with your own media doesn't.
Create a blank project in the editor
If you're not making a talking character video, you can skip the AI flow entirely and go straight to the editor in order to create a new project.
Click Edit video in the left pannel
Add your first asset
A pop-up offers four ways to begin: upload files from your device, upload from your phone, record something new, or start with AI.
For the full detail on each, see how to upload video, audio, music, or image files.
Start editing
Create a project by recording
If your video starts with a screen recording or a piece to camera, you can record first and land in the editor with your footage already in place.
Open More apps
In your dashboard, scroll to the bottom of the left panel and click More apps. The full list of VEED tools will appear.
Click Record
This opens the recorder in a new page.
Choose what to record
Record your screen only, your camera only, or both together.
Finish recording
When you stop, you're taken straight into the editor with your recording ready to work on.
For recorder settings and troubleshooting, see how to use our Recorder.
After you've created your project
However you started, your project is saved automatically and appears under Recents in the left panel of your dashboard. Click View all to see everything in your Project Library.
From there you can export it, share it, move it to another Space, or save it as a template. For a full tour of where everything lives, see how VEED's dashboard works.
Frequently asked questions
Does creating a project use credits?
No. Creating a project and writing or generating a script are free. Credits are only used when you generate a video with AI.
Should I start with AI or with a blank project?
Start with AI if you want a talking character video built for you from an idea or a script. Start with a blank project if you're editing your own footage, building motion graphics, or working from assets you already have.
Can I edit a video after AI has generated it?
Yes. Every generated video opens in the editor, where you can change anything in it just like any other project.
Do I need to save my project?
No. Projects save automatically as you work, and appear under Recents on your dashboard.
Can I record footage into a project I've already started?
Yes. Open the project and click Record in the top bar of the editor. The recorder in More apps is for starting a new project from a recording.
What if I start a project by mistake?
Hover over it in your Project Library, click the ••• menu, and choose Move to Trash. Deleted projects are kept for 30 days before being permanently removed.
