How to upload Video, Audio, Music, or Image files

Learn how to upload video, audio, music, and image files to VEED. Add files to your workspace, a new project, or an existing one, and see supported formats.

Uploading your files is the first step in most VEED projects. How you do it depends on whether you're building your asset library, starting a new project, or adding to one you've already begun. This article covers all three, plus the file formats and size limits we support.

Note: Uploading works the same way on the web at veed.io, in the Android app, and in the iOS app. The only difference is how your device lets you pick files, covered below.

Uploading Files to your workspace

  1. Files uploaded here go into your asset library, ready to use in any project.

    1. Log in to VEED

    2. Open your assets

      • Click Assets in the left panel, then click Upload.

    3. Choose your files

      • Select the files on your computer. The upload starts automatically once you confirm.

Your files will then be available in the editor, in your asset library.

Upload files to a new project

  1. Open a new project

    • Click Edit video in the left sidebar. This takes you straight into the editor and creates a new project.

  2. Choose how to add your first asset

    • A pop-up will offer four options:

      • Upload files: add video, audio, or images from your device

      • Upload from phone: send files across from your mobile device

      • Record: capture new footage with the built-in recorder

      • Start with AI: generate your first asset instead of uploading one

  3. Upload your file

    • If you chose Upload files, drag and drop your video or audio into the marked area, or click to browse your device.

    • The upload starts automatically once you confirm.

Add files to an existing project

Open the project first: in your dashboard, click it under Recents. If it isn't there, click View all to see everything in your Project Library.

Once you're inside your project, there are five ways to add content:

Upload from your device

  • Click Video, Image, or Audio in the left sidebar.

  • Click Upload and select your files.

Record new footage

  • Click Record in the top bar to capture your screen, camera, or both with VEED's built-in recorder.

  • For the full walkthrough, see how to use our Recorder.

Use your Brand Kit

  • Find Brand Kit in the left panel, just above Settings.

  • Add your logos, fonts, and colours straight into the project. Brand Kits are available on selected plans — see how to create and manage Brand Kits.

Generate with AI

  • Click AI tools in the left sidebar, above the Video button.

  • Under Generate, choose from tools including AI Voice, AI Video, and AI Images.

Stock media and sound effects

  • Stock video: click Video in the left panel and scroll to Stock videos.

  • Stock music and sound effects: click Audio in the left panel and scroll to Stock music.

  • Stock images, backgrounds, and GIFs: click Image in the left panel and scroll down.

Upload several files at once on desktop

  • Click Upload a File and select more than one file from your device.

  • On desktop: Hold CTRL (CMD on Mac) to pick individual files, or CTRL + A (CMD + A on Mac) to select everything in a folder.

  • You can also drag and drop several files straight into the upload window.

Uploading on mobile

The upload steps are the same in the Android and iOS apps, but the file picker is your device's own rather than a desktop file browser.

  • On Android — tapping Upload opens your device's file picker. You can choose files from your gallery, Downloads, Google Drive, or any other storage provider you have set up. To select several at once, press and hold the first file, then tap the others.

  • On iOS — tapping Upload opens your device's picker, where you can choose from Photos or Files. To select several at once, tap each one in turn.

Keyboard shortcuts like CTRL/CMD + A don't apply on mobile. Large files also take longer over mobile data than over Wi-Fi, so it's worth being on Wi-Fi for anything sizeable.

Supported File Formats

We support most commonly used formats. Here are the main ones:

Video

  • MP4, M4V (H.264, H.265)

  • MOV (H.264, H.265, ProRes)

  • MKV (VP8, VP9, AV1)

  • WEBM, AVI, OGV, FLV, TS, GIF

HDR files are converted to SDR on upload. Transparency is supported in MP4, M4V, MOV, and MKV.

Audio

  • MP3, M4A, OGG, OGA, WAV, AAC, FLAC

Image

  • JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF

Transparency is supported in PNG.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum file size I can upload?

On the Free plan, each file can be up to 1 GB. That's per file, not per project, so you can have several smaller files in one project. Paid plans have no per-file limit, though we recommend keeping a project's total under 5 GB for smooth performance.

Is there a limit to how long my video or audio can be?

There's no limit on the length of an individual file. We do recommend keeping the total project length to around 4–5 hours.

Do you support transparent videos and images?

Yes. Just make sure the background is genuinely transparent rather than white, since a white background will upload as white.

Can I upload GIFs?

Yes, in exactly the same way as any video file.

Can I upload a whole folder?

No, folders aren't supported. Open the folder and select the files inside it instead.

Where do my uploaded files go?

Anything you upload from the dashboard lands in your asset library under Assets, and is available in any project in that workspace. Files uploaded from inside the editor are added to that project.

Can I upload from my phone?

Yes. Uploading works in both the Android and iOS apps, and the same file formats and size limits apply. Your device's own picker opens instead of a desktop file browser, so you can pull files from your gallery, Files, or a connected cloud storage provider.
