What is the VEED iOS Lite app?

VEED Lite is our iOS app for quick edits on your phone. Find out how it differs from the VEED app, and how subscriptions and projects work in each.

VEED Lite is our standalone iOS app for quick edits on your phone. It's a separate app from VEED: AI Video Creation, with its own subscription and its own projects. This article explains what VEED Lite does, how it differs from the main VEED app, and which one you need.

Telling the two apps apart

You may see two VEED apps in the App Store. They do different things.

  • VEED Lite: Quick Video Edits — black icon with a green V. A standalone app built for editing on your phone.

  • VEED: AI Video Creation — green icon with a black V. The full VEED experience you already use in your browser, in app form.

If you have a VEED account and want your usual projects, plan, and workspace on your phone, you want VEED: AI Video Creation. If you want a quick, self-contained editor for footage on your camera roll, you want VEED Lite.

What is VEED Lite?

VEED Lite is a native iOS app designed for editing on the go. It handles captions, styling, resizing, B-roll, background music, zooms, and AI edits, all from your phone.

Because it's a separate app rather than a version of the web editor, three things work differently:

  • It has its own subscription, managed through the App Store.

  • Its projects live on your phone, not in your web workspace, unless you move them.

  • Its editing tools are its own, built for a phone screen rather than mirroring the web editor.

Subscriptions are separate

A VEED Lite subscription is not the same as a VEED plan.

  • VEED Lite is billed through the App Store, so it's managed and cancelled through your Apple account rather than in VEED.

  • Paying for VEED Lite doesn't upgrade your VEED account, and a paid VEED plan doesn't unlock VEED Lite.

  • If you want both, you'll need both.

Where your projects live

Projects you create in VEED Lite stay on your phone. They won't appear in your web dashboard on their own.

  • To see a Lite project on the web, move it into a Space or Folder from inside the app.

  • To see a web project in Lite, the project must already be exported. Drafts won't appear.

  • You must be logged in with the same email address on both, or nothing will be shared between them.

Moving a project to the web is one-way. Once you start editing a Lite project in the web editor, you can no longer edit it in the app. Your elements, images, and emojis become part of the video, and your subtitle styling won't carry across — only the subtitle text stays editable. You'll be warned before this happens, and it can't be undone.

Which one should I use?

Use VEED Lite if you're filming on your phone, want to caption and cut something quickly, and don't need it in your web workspace.

Use VEED: AI Video Creation if you already have a VEED account, want your existing projects and Brand Kits, or want the same tools you'd use on desktop. It's the same account, the same plan, and the same projects as veed.io.

Plenty of people use both — Lite for capturing and cutting on the move, the main app and web for finishing. If you can't find VEED: AI Video Creation in your App Store, you can still use veed.io in your phone's browser.

FAQs

  • Q: Does my VEED plan cover VEED Lite?

    • No. VEED Lite has its own subscription through the App Store. A paid VEED plan doesn't unlock it, and vice versa.

  • Q: Why can't I see my web projects in VEED Lite?

    • Only exported projects appear. If yours is still a draft on the web, export it first. Also check you're signed in with the same email address on both.

  • Q: Why can't I see my VEED Lite projects on the web?

    • Projects made in VEED Lite stay in the app until you move them into a Space or Folder. Once moved, they'll appear on the web with a Mobile tag on the thumbnail.

  • Q: Can I move a project back to my phone after editing it on the web?

    • No. Once a project has been moved to a Space or Folder and opened in the web editor, it can't be returned to app-only editing.

  • Q: Can I edit a web project inside VEED Lite?

    • Not fully. You can rename it, delete it, export it (which also saves it to your Camera Roll), and share it, but the editing tools aren't available for web projects.

  • Q: Is VEED Lite available on Android?

    • VEED Lite is an iOS app. If you're on Android, search the Play Store for VEED to see what's available in your country, or use veed.io in your mobile browser.

  • Q: I used to have the VEED Captions app. Is this the same thing?

    • Yes. VEED Captions is now VEED Lite. Your projects and subscription are unaffected.
