Text is one of the quickest ways to make a video easier to follow — titles, callouts, lower thirds, or a closing line. VEED gives you ready-made text templates you can drop straight onto your canvas, then style, time, and animate however you need. This article covers adding your first text box, customising it, and working with several at once.
Who Can Use This Feature?
Available for: All plans
Open a project first
You'll need a project open in the editor before you can add text. If you already have one, open it from Recents on your dashboard. If not, you can start one in a few ways:
Start with AI — describe your video in the prompt box on your dashboard, or paste in a script.
Start from a blank project — click Edit video in the left panel to open the editor straight away, then upload your files.
Start by recording — open More apps at the bottom of the left panel and click Record.
For the full steps on each, see how to create a new project in VEED.
Add text to your video
Open the Text tab
You'll find it in the left panel of the editor.
Choose a text template
Click any of the available styles and it's added to your canvas, ready to edit.
Customise your text
With your text selected, the Edit Text panel opens on the left. You can also click the text directly on the canvas to bring up its settings.
Write it — type or paste in the text you want.
Style it — change the layout, colour, background, and font size.
Fine-tune the type — set bold or italic, letter spacing, and line height in the middle section of the Edit Text panel.
Time it — use the Start and End options to control when the text appears and disappears.
Animate it — add animations, effects, and other styling from the Edit Text panel, or from the buttons that appear under the selected text on the canvas.
Position and resize it — drag the text to move it around the canvas, and drag the dots at its corners to resize it.
Work with multiple text boxes
You can add as many text boxes to a project as you need.
Add another — click + Add Another Text Box at the bottom of the Edit Text panel.
Switch between them — click the one you want on the canvas, or select its layer on the timeline.
Export your video
When you're happy with your edits, click Export at the top right. VEED renders your project and takes you to the video page, where you can download or share it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use text boxes to create subtitles?
You can, but we don't recommend it. The Subtitles feature is built for this and gives you far better control — automatic timing, a full transcript view, and the ability to edit every line in one place.
How many text boxes can I add?
As many as you like. There's no limit on the number of text boxes in a project.
Can I use my own font?
Yes — upload custom fonts as part of your Brand Kit and they'll be available in the font picker across your projects.
Do I need to save my text edits?
No. Your project saves automatically as you work.
