A custom template saves a project's layout — logos, fonts, brand colours, captions, and timing — so you can reuse it in seconds. They're ideal for series content, branded intros, and social-media variants, where every video needs to look the same but the content changes.
This article covers custom templates: the ones you build yourself from your own projects. It doesn't cover the ready-made templates that appear below the prompt box on your dashboard (which can be found under Assets).
Who can use this feature?
Custom templates are available for: Studio and Enterprise plans.
On other plans you can still use the ready-made templates on your dashboard, but you won't be able to save your own.
How to save a project as a template
Open or create a project
Create your project with everything you want to reuse — branding, text styles, music, and placeholders. See how to create a new project in VEED if you're starting from scratch.
In the editor, click the ••• menu at the top
You'll find the 3 dots in the top-left corner of the editor, right next to the name of the project. When you click it, a dropdown appears.
Choose Save as Template
Your layout is stored in your Templates library, ready to apply to any new or existing project.
Apply a template to a new video
Open the Templates tab
Click Templates in the left panel of your dashboard. Every template you've saved appears here.
Click Use Template
Hover over the one you want and click it. A new project opens with all the template's elements already in place — nothing needs resizing or repositioning.
Edit your project
Swap in your own footage, replace the placeholder text, and adjust anything else you need.
Manage and share your templates
Rename or delete — go to Templates in the left panel of your dashboard and use the ••• menu on any template.
Update a template — open it, make your changes, and click Save Changes. The update applies for everyone with access.
Share with your team — templates are available to everyone in your workspace, so adding a collaborator gives them access automatically.
Tips for better templates
Use your brand fonts and colours so every video that comes out of the template is on-brand without extra work.
Only include what you'll actually reuse. Avoid adding media files you'll replace every time — they make the template heavier for no benefit.
Add placeholder text like "Drop headline here" so it's obvious what needs filling in.
Make a version for each aspect ratio you publish to. It's much faster than resizing a single template every time you repurpose a video.
Frequently asked questions
Does a template copy media files?
Yes. Video and audio files in the project are copied into the template. This is why we'd suggest leaving out any media you plan to replace each time.
Can I update a template after saving it?
Yes. Open it, make your edits, and click Save Changes. Everyone with access sees the updated version.
What happens if I delete a template?
It's removed from your library, but any projects you already created from it are unaffected and stay exactly as they are.
Can I apply a template to a project I've already started?
Yes. Templates can be applied to new or existing projects.
How many templates can I save?
There's no limit on the number of custom templates in your library.
