VEED gives you two ways to remove a video's background, both found under AI Tools in the editor's left sidebar:
Background Remover — AI-powered, and works on any background as long as there's a person in shot.
Green Screen (Chroma Key) — removes a single solid colour, for footage shot against a green screen or plain backdrop.
Both are useful for dropping yourself into a new scene, replacing a plain wall, or getting a cleaner edit. This article covers how to use each one, how to add your new background, and how to get the best result from your footage.

Open a project first
You'll need your footage in the editor before you can remove its background. If you already have a project, open it from Recents on your dashboard. If not:
Start from a blank project — click Edit video in the left panel, then upload your video.
Start by recording — open More apps at the bottom of the left panel and click Record.

Use the Background Remover
This uses AI to detect the person in your video and strip out everything behind them. It works best on HD footage where the subject is clearly visible and well lit.
Select your clip
Click it on the canvas or on the timeline.
Open AI Tools
Click AI Tools in the left sidebar of the editor.
Click Remove Background
Processing time depends on the length of your video.
Wait for it to finish
Your background is replaced with the project's default colour, ready for you to change.

Click on your video in the timeline in the editor
Click Video in the left panel

Use Green Screen (Chroma Key)
This makes one solid colour transparent, so it's the right choice for footage shot against a green screen or any uniform backdrop.
Select your clip
Click it on the canvas or on the timeline.
Open AI Tools and turn on Green Screen
Click AI Tools in the left sidebar, then toggle Green Screen on.
Pick the colour to remove
Use the colour picker to select your background colour directly from the video.
Fine-tune with the sensitivity slider
Drag it between 1 and 100 until the background is gone and your subject's edges still look clean.
Add your new background
Once the old background is gone, you can replace it in two ways.
A colour or image via Settings — open the Settings tab and either choose a background colour or upload an image.
An image via the Image tab — upload your image there, then send it to the lowest layer with Ctrl + Down Arrow (Cmd + Down Arrow on Mac) so it sits behind your subject.
Important: exported videos are never transparent. If you don't add a background yourself, your video exports with the project's default colour behind your subject.
Tips for the best results
Shoot in high resolution. More detail means more accurate edges around your subject.
Make your subject stand out from whatever's behind them — avoid wearing green in front of a green screen, or grey against a grey wall.
For Green Screen, light it evenly. Shadows and creases create shades of the same colour, and the tool can only remove one at a time.

Which tool should I use?
Use Background Remover if there's a person in your video and the background is busy or uneven. Use Green Screen (Chroma Key) if you filmed against a solid colour, or if your subject isn't a person — Chroma Key works on anything, since it only looks at colour.
Can I remove the background from an image?
No, these tools only work with video files.
Can I export with a transparent background?
No. You'll need to add a new background, or export with a colour behind your subject.
What's Chroma Key best used for?
Replacing solid-colour backgrounds in talking-head videos, product demos, and tutorials.
Why isn't my background fully removed?
Try increasing the sensitivity slider. If your background colour varies across the shot — because of shadows or uneven lighting — accuracy drops, since Chroma Key removes one colour at a time.
