AI Transitions create smooth, seamless movement between two video clips using generative AI. Pick one of three ready-made transition styles, or describe the transition you want with a text prompt and let AI build it for you.
Limitations
Available on all plans. Each transition you generate uses AI Credits.
You need at least two video clips sitting next to each other on the timeline.
Free plan: AI credits are available in some regions but not others. If your region includes them, you can generate files up to 12 seconds long. If you don't see any AI credits on your free plan, it's because they aren't available where you are.
What are AI Transitions?
AI Transitions are generated rather than pre-rendered. Instead of picking a fixed effect from a library, AI looks at the two clips either side and creates movement that blends them together — either from one of our three styles, or from a prompt you write yourself.
Common use cases
Smoothing the cut between two shots that don't naturally match
Giving a montage or travel video a more polished, cinematic feel
Creating a branded transition style you can reuse across a series
Adding visual interest between scenes in social and short-form video
How it works
Open your project in the VEED editor.
Add two adjacent clips. Make sure the two video clips you want to join sit next to each other on the timeline.
Open AI Transitions. There are two ways to get there:
Choose or create your transition. In the sidebar you can:
Pick one of the three ready-made AI transitions
Click Create New AI Transition
Or write your own prompt describing the transition you want
Generate. Click the Generate icon to build it.
Review. Your transition appears automatically between the two clips on the timeline, ready to preview or export.
Things to note
Use the Start Video and End Video dropdowns in the AI Transition panel to change which two clips the transition sits between.
Each generation costs credits, so it's worth previewing before regenerating with a different prompt.
For standard, non-generated effects, see how to use Transitions and Animations. Those don't use credits.
FAQs
Q: Do I need credits to use AI Transitions?
Yes. Every AI transition uses AI Credits to generate, on all plans. On the Free plan, whether you have credits at all depends on your region.
Q: How many clips do I need?
At least two, placed next to each other on the timeline. A transition needs something on both sides of it.
Q: Can I choose which clips the transition goes between?
Yes. Use the Start Video and End Video dropdowns in the AI Transition panel to pick different clips.
Q: Where do I find AI Transitions?
Either click AI Tools in the left menu and select AI Transitions, or click a clip on the timeline, click Video, then select AI Transitions.
Q: What's the difference between AI Transitions and regular transitions?
Regular transitions and animations are preset effects applied instantly at no credit cost. AI Transitions are generated fresh for your specific clips, which is why they cost credits and take a moment to create.
Q: Can I write my own transition prompt?
Yes. Alongside the three ready-made styles, you can describe the transition you want in your own words and generate it from that.
