The timeline represents your whole project and is the most used place to edit and time the elements in your project. Here's a guide on how to effectively use the timeline in VEED:
All you need to know about the Timeline
1. Navigating the Timeline Interface
Timeline Layout: After uploading, your media files will appear in the timeline at the bottom of the screen. Each file is represented separately on the timeline, allowing you to modify them individually.
Play and skip: Clicking on the play button in the screen's lower middle part lets you see and check how the project looks before export. On either side are the Skip buttons, allowing you to skip 1 frame forward or backward.
Playhead: The blue playhead represents the point of the project, which is shown on the canvas. You can click and drag this playhead along the timeline to view other parts of the project.
Extending the timeline: You can extend the timeline to be bigger, allowing you to see more tracks on the same screen. Hover your mouse over the line above the play button, and click and drag the line up or down to enlarge or shrink the size of the timeline.
Zoom in or out: Zooming in or out of the timeline allows you to see parts of your video in more detail, allowing you to have a more precise, frame-by-frame editing experience. The zoom in or out option is located to the right of the play button, above the end of the timeline.
2. Basic Editing Functions
Selecting an element: Click on any media clip or element in the timeline to select it. A highlighted border indicates the selection.
Options for elements: You can bring up a lot of options for each element by right-clicking on the element.
Trimming elements: Hover over the start or end of any element until a trim handle appears. Drag the handle to adjust the element's duration, effectively trimming unwanted sections and setting the start and the end time of the element.
Splitting Clips or Elements: Place the playhead at the desired split point and click the Split button (scissors icon) to divide the clip into separate segments, or press the S button on your keyboard while the element is selected. This is useful for removing or rearranging sections within a clip.
Download section: When you want to download only a small part of the project, you can select a clip or element on the timeline and download that section. Select a clip or element on the timeline and click on the Download section button. This will download everything within the timeline between the times shown next to the button.
Grouping: You can group up multiple elements on the timeline. Select multiple elements by holding down CTRL(or Control) on your keyboard and clicking on the elements that you want to group. After that, click on the Group button at the top left side of the page or on the same button under the Canvas.
Ungrouping: You can ungroup by selecting the Group on the timeline and clicking on Ungroup at the top left side of the screen or Ungroup under the canvas.
Removing empty spaces: After cutting or trimming, there remains an empty space between elements that you would want removed. You can do this very easily. Simply hover your mouse over the the empty space, click on it, and press the Delete button on your keyboard, or right-click it and select Delete.
3. Arranging Clips on the Timeline
Reordering Clips or Elements: Click and drag clips or any element along the timeline to rearrange their sequence. Our snap-to-grid feature will assist you in joining the elements correctly.
Moving elements along the timeline: You have the option to move elements sideways along the timeline. This changes the start and end time of the element or clip. Simply click the clip or element and drag it sideways to change timing.
Layering Tracks: You can stack multiple media tracks vertically. This layering allows for overlaying videos, images, or audio, enabling picture-in-picture effects and background music integration.
FAQ
Q: How do I add a title page before my video?
Upload the file for which you want to add a title page to. After that, move the clip to the right side, crating an empty space before it. Then simply add or upload the video, image, or anything else that you would want to appear before.
Q: After export, there is an empty space in my video. How do I get rid of it?
This empty space happens when something is removed from the project, and that empty space is left there. You will need to navigate to the empty space and use the option mentioned in the Removing empty spaces above, or if it is at the end of the project, you can navigate to the Settings tab and change the duration of the project to the time when the last element on the timeline ends.
