Transitions and Animations

Updated this week

In this article, you'll learn how to apply transitions to your clips and add animations to your videos, images, texts, or other elements. Follow the steps below.

How to Add Animations

Here are the steps detailing how to access the animations:

  1. Go to veed.io
Create an account or log in to your existing one.

  2. Click on "Create Project"
    This will open the editor.

  3. Upload your video or image file
You can drag and drop your file into the "Upload a file" area or click to select your file.

  4. Wait for the file to upload
Once uploaded, it will appear on the timeline.

  5. Click on the File.
Select the File on the timeline or the Canvas to access the settings for it.

  6. Click on the “Animations” tab
This opens the list of available animation effects.

In and Out animations

You can freely add an animation effect to the start and end of each clip, text, image, and element in your project. These are selected individually from each other.

  • IN animations: In animations allow you to select how that specific file will appear on screen in the video.

  • OUT animations: Out animations allow you to set how the file will disappear from the screen.

Each can be customized further by clicking on the animation you want and setting how long the animation should take to play.

Loop animation

Adding Loop animations will apply the selected animation to the full duration while the file appears in the video. You can further customize it by setting how long the chosen animation should last.

Adding Transitions

Adding transitions between clips is simple.

  1. Follow the steps above until the 4th step.

  2. Locate and click on the Transitions button that is under the canvas.

  3. On the timeline, squares will appear at the start, between, and end of each video clip. Each square represents a place where you can add a transition.

  4. Select one of these squares on the timeline, and you will see all the transition styles you can add.

  5. Click on the transition style you want to add. This will change the image in the square to indicate that a transition effect is added between those clips.

  6. To add another transition to another place in the project, select a different square on the timeline.

Please note: Adding transitions between 2 clips will slightly shorten the clips' duration. This is because when you add a transition, the transition overlaps a small part of each clip to create the transition effect.

FAQ

  • Q: Can I add a transition effect between a clip and an image(or other element)?

    • Right now, you cannot add a transition effect between images or a clip and an element. You can only add transitions between two video clips or at the end of a clip(if no other element comes right after the last clip).

  • Q: Why did my videos become shorter after adding transitions?

    • When you add a transition between two clips, you overlap the end of the first clip and the start of the second clip. This shortens both clips as while the first clip is transitioning out, the second clip is transitioning in, resulting in a few seconds where both clips play simultaneously. For example, if you add a fade transition style, while the first clip is fading out, the second clip is already fading in. This results in both clips playing simultaneously, shortening the clips down.
